How to reduce sunburn
What is sunburn?
It is a form of radiation burn that affects living tissue such as skin that result from an overexposure to ultraviolet(UV)radiation, usually from the sun.
Sunburn is an inflammatory response in the tissue triggered by direct DNA damage by UV radiation
Sometimes, it can be red, swollen and painful. Sunburn can vary from mild to severe.
Sunburn can occur in less than 15minutes but the harm is often not immediately obvious
After exposure, skin may turn red in as little as 30minutes.
Treatments
- It is important to start treatment as soon as possible
- Sunburn can lead to permanent skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer.
- It is best to avoid being sunburned in the first place.
Steps
- Rehydrate: Drink water to help rehydrate the skin
- Apply moisturizer: e.g aloe veragel , Maya Vitamin C serum or Snail serum
- Cool the skin
- Do not apply butter: Mango butter, shea butter, cocoa butter etc
- Stay away from the sun
Preventions
- Set in locations with shade
- Wear a wide brimmed hat
- Protect the eyes with sunglasses
- Avoid going out in the hottest part of the day.
- Always wear sunblock and reapply regularly.
- Sun screens or sunblocks that are higher protects the skin from being damaged more.
SPF : Sun Protection factor 10 blocks 90% of sunburns.
UVA radiation: Does not cause sunburn; it does contribute to skin aging and an increased risk of skin cancer.
